Sonic Boom Version 1.01 Quick Start
This file is for people who want to quickly get into writing some music, so
here is some information to get you started.
Before you can start producing any sounds, you must first load in a sample.
Samples are loaded into a 'bank' ranging from 0 to 60. You may select the
bank to load the sample by pressing the '+' and '-' keys. The number next
to 'Sample Num:' at the bottom of the screen shows the current sample.
Using the mouse, click on the 'Load SND' button. A list of samples in the
current directory will be presented to you. Click on one of the samples
and then click on 'Load File'. You should hear the sample being played and
the 'Sample Num:' number should change from red to blue.
Click on the 'Return' button to get back to the edit screen. The keyboard
is used to simulate a musical keyboard. You will find that pressing the
keys from 'Q' through 'P' will play the notes of the scale. Each time you
press a key, the command that plays that sample is inserted into the
module.
If you want to play the combination of notes you have just entered, hit
'F5'. The program will scroll through the module, playing the notes you
have entered.
You can use the Arrow Keys to move the cursor through the module. If you
press the Left and Right keys, the cursor will move along the columns of
the module. During the song, you may want to play several notes at once.
Each column is called a different channel (8 in total) which can contain
their own combination of notes. You may, for example, have a tune playing
in one channel while a drum beat is playing in another.
Experimenting is the best way to learn. Try loading different samples into
other banks and adding them to your musical masterpiece. You will quickly
find that it is very easy to produce a good sounding piece of music.
